Nagpur: Authorities lifted the curfew in select areas of Nagpur on Thursday, three days after violent unrest shook the city, officials confirmed.

The violence erupted on Monday night in central Nagpur after rumors spread that a ‘chadar’ with holy inscriptions had been burned during protests led by VHP and Bajrang Dal, demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

In response, a curfew was enforced in multiple areas, including Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shanti Nagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imambada, Yashodhara Nagar, and Kapil Nagar police station limits.

Considering public convenience and the law-and-order situation, Commissioner of Police Ravinder Singal lifted the curfew in Nandanvan and Kapil Nagar police station areas from 2 PM on Thursday.
