A 27-year-old Israeli tourist and her Indian host were subjected to a brutal attack during a stargazing trip in Koppal, Karnataka. Three assailants on a motorbike confronted the group, demanding money. When the group resisted, the attackers assaulted them, throwing the male members into a canal—resulting in one fatality—and gang-raped the two women. The victims are currently receiving medical care, and the police have arrested two suspects, identified as Sai Chetan and Mallesh, both from Gangavathi. This incident has intensified discussions about the safety of tourists and the pressing issue of sexual violence in India, which saw a 20% increase in reported rape cases in 2022.
