Wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler is not just a legal requirement but a crucial safety measure that can save lives. Despite numerous awareness campaigns and strict regulations, many riders and pillion passengers still neglect this essential protective gear, putting themselves at risk of severe injuries or even fatal accidents.

The Importance of Helmets

Helmets are designed to provide head protection in the event of an accident, reducing the risk of traumatic brain injuries. According to road safety statistics, a significant percentage of fatal two-wheeler accidents occur due to head injuries, many of which could have been prevented by simply wearing a helmet.

Legal Consequences of Helmet Violations

To curb violations and enhance road safety, the Andhra Pradesh government has implemented stringent penalties under the new Motor Vehicles Act. The latest traffic regulations impose:

  • ₹1,000 fine for the rider if found without a helmet.
  • ₹1,000 fine for the pillion rider for non-compliance.
  • Repeated violations could lead to further penalties, including license suspension.
