Following a successful demonstration by Chandigarh Police to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Uttar Pradesh Police plans to set up a similar model for showcasing the implementation of new criminal laws during the Kumbh Mela in February 2025. The demonstration will highlight the effectiveness and technological advancements in law enforcement.
In a significant move to promote the successful implementation of new criminal laws, the Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) Police will replicate a live demonstration initially showcased by the Chandigarh Police to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This demonstration, set to take place during the upcoming Kumbh Mela in February 2025, will showcase how U.P. police are implementing the latest criminal laws, integrating technology, and improving law enforcement efficiency.
The original demonstration, a brainchild of Chandigarh’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur, was presented to PM Modi on December 3, 2024, at the Punjab Engineering College (PEC). The one-hour demonstration simulated a murder crime scene investigation, following the guidelines of the newly introduced criminal laws. The multi-stage presentation offered a live experience of the enhanced coordination between law enforcement, forensic teams, judicial authorities, and prisons.
The demonstration’s success has led the Centre to encourage other states to adopt similar models. In response, U.P. Police will set up a comparable demo to showcase the new criminal laws in action at the Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the country. This initiative is part of a national plan to ensure the efficient adoption of these reforms at major festivals across India.
In addition to the live demos, Chandigarh Police is also working on producing two detailed audio-visual films that will explain the changes in criminal laws. One film will be directed at investigating officers, providing an in-depth understanding of the reforms, while the other will target the general public, helping them grasp how these legal changes affect their lives. These films will be distributed nationwide to ensure widespread awareness and understanding.
Chandigarh was chosen as the model state for the implementation of these criminal laws and has become the first in the country to successfully incorporate these changes, making it a blueprint for other states to follow.
