In a swift operation, the Manipur Police have arrested three individuals with illegal arms and ammunition in Imphal East district. The suspects, identified as Ningombam Lemba Singh (25), Mangshatabam Poireinganba Meitei (21), and Laishram Bidyas Singh (21), were detained from Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai on Tuesday. Police revealed that the group was loitering in the area with the intent to extort money from the public, a common tactic used by insurgent groups to fund their activities.

Further investigations have confirmed that the arrested individuals are members of the Arambai Tenggol, a militant outfit involved in subversive activities in the region. Along with the suspects, a minor was also apprehended, highlighting the extent to which such groups may involve younger individuals in their illegal operations.

The police seized a Ghatak rifle, a .32 pistol, five live rounds, three mobile phones, and a four-wheeler from the arrested individuals. These weapons, along with other items, pointed to the seriousness of their criminal intentions.

Following the arrests, police intensified their operations across the state. A raid in Churachandpur district led to the discovery of additional firearms, including an SLR rifle, a 9mm pistol, a 12-bore shotgun, and 15 live rounds. In another successful operation in Kangpokpi district, further weapons were recovered, including a sniper rifle and a locally modified M79 grenade launcher, also known as a ‘lathode gun,’ along with more pistols and ammunition.

This series of raids marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts of Manipur Police to dismantle criminal networks and curb the insurgent activities that have plagued the region for years. The successful recovery of weapons and the arrest of these individuals not only highlights the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and order but also sends a strong message to groups involved in illegal activities.

With security forces remaining vigilant, these arrests are part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of the public and thwart the influence of insurgent groups in Manipur.
