In a significant move against terrorism, the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested five individuals with alleged links to the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The arrests occurred in Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts, marking a crucial step in dismantling extremist networks in the region.
Arrest Details
The STF carried out meticulously planned operations in the two districts. Four operatives were apprehended in Kokrajhar, while another was taken into custody in Dhubri. According to a senior police official, “The JeM linkmen were arrested in special operations carried out by the Assam Police Special Task Force. These individuals are suspected of being part of a larger network aimed at promoting extremism.”
NIA’s Parallel Efforts
The arrests followed a series of actions by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) earlier this month. On December 12, the NIA apprehended four individuals in Assam’s Goalpara district, suspecting them of involvement in JeM-linked money laundering and radicalization activities.
The NIA had also conducted raids at 19 locations across India, including Assam, as part of an ongoing effort to dismantle terrorist modules. These operations target networks allegedly working to radicalize youth and propagate extremist ideologies.
Focus on Counter-Terrorism
The collaborative efforts of Assam’s STF and the NIA highlight the intensifying focus on curbing terrorism in the region. By intercepting these networks, authorities aim to prevent radicalization and ensure the safety and stability of the region. The swift action underscores India’s commitment to combating terrorism at all levels.
