Two of Atiq Ahmad’s sons, Umar and Ali, have been formally charged in the murder case of lawyer Umesh Pal outside his residence in Prayagraj. Umar, currently in Lucknow jail, and Ali, held in Naini Central jail, face allegations related to the conspiracy behind the crime, as per Prayagraj police officials. Both had earlier been arrested for separate cases involving abduction, assault, and attempted murder in 2022.
According to ACP Varun Kumar, Ali and Umar have admitted their involvement in the conspiracy. The charge sheet, filed under Section 120 B of the IPC, marks the fourth in the Umesh Pal murder case. Several other accused, including Atiq’s wife and sister, remain absconding, while police continue their investigation, having recorded statements from Ali and Umar in jail.
