A disturbing incident from Hyderabad has sparked nationwide outrage after a viral video showed a pregnant woman being attacked in broad daylight with cement bricks by her husband. The accused has since been arrested, police confirmed.
The woman, identified as Shabana (22) from Kolkata, was found unconscious at the scene and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Her condition is said to be stable.
According to the police, the accused, Basharath (32), an interior designer from Hyderabad, met Shabana during a shared auto ride on their visit to Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan in January 2023. The two developed a relationship, leading to their marriage in October 2024 in Kolkata, after Basharath visited her home in May.
Shabana moved to Hyderabad earlier this year, but their relationship soon turned troubled due to ongoing family disputes, officials said.
On March 29, Shabana was admitted to a private hospital after suffering from vomiting and weakness. During her stay, she reportedly informed hospital staff that she was facing domestic abuse from her husband.
The video of the attack, which quickly spread across social media platforms, shows the man violently hitting her with bricks while bystanders stood shocked. Authorities responded swiftly after the footage went viral, arresting the accused and launching a full investigation.
The police have assured strict legal action and urged the public to report any such incidents of violence. The case has reignited conversations around domestic violence, women’s safety, and the need for better public intervention during such acts.
