On January 13, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Z-Morh Tunnel, a significant infrastructure project connecting Sonamarg in Kashmir to the Union Territory of Ladakh. Spanning 6.5 kilometers, the tunnel provides year-round access to Sonamarg, a region previously cut off during winter due to heavy snowfall. Built at a cost of $932 million, the project is expected to revolutionize transportation, enhance tourism opportunities, and bolster military logistics in this strategically vital region.
During the inauguration, extensive security measures were implemented, including the deployment of police forces, multiple checkpoints, and drone surveillance. The tunnel’s completion marks a major milestone in the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure in Ladakh and Kashmir, promoting economic growth and strengthening national security.
