On January 14, 2025, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking. Acting on credible intelligence, the STF intercepted a vehicle at Amingaon in Kamrup district. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 1.128 kilograms of heroin, estimated to be worth approximately ₹9 crore in the illegal drug market.
The contraband was meticulously packed and concealed to avoid detection. Two individuals from Manipur, suspected to be part of a larger drug trafficking network, were arrested at the scene.
The bust underscores Assam Police’s commitment to combating the drug menace that has plagued the region. This seizure highlights the increasing role of northeastern states in the illicit drug trade due to their proximity to international borders. The STF’s success in this operation reflects its proactive approach and the importance of intelligence-driven policing in addressing the drug problem.
