The Haryana Police was officially established after the formation of the state in 1966. Previously, the region was part of Punjab, and law enforcement was under the Punjab Police system. Haryana Police inherited the framework of the Punjab Police but quickly adapted to the unique challenges posed by its agrarian society and rapid urbanization. Over time, the force expanded its operations and capabilities, addressing rural crime, lawlessness, and political unrest, particularly during the period of farm movements and protests.

Haryana Police has continued to modernize its operations by adopting cutting-edge technology, improving police training, and focusing on specialized units such as the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and Traffic Police. They have also focused on combating organized crime, enhancing law enforcement in urban centers, and working towards community engagement to foster stronger police-public relationships.
