The Goa Police have announced plans to approach the High Court for permission to disband the Special Investigation Team (SIT) dedicated to cracking down on illegal matka gambling. The decision comes after significant progress in curbing organized gambling operations in the state.
Officials stated that routine policing could now handle the remaining cases, freeing up resources for other pressing issues. However, activists argue that disbanding the SIT prematurely may allow illegal gambling networks to regroup.
