The Naharlagun Police achieved a significant milestone in their fight against drug trafficking through “Operation Dawn,” conducted throughout 2025. The operation led to the seizure of over 7 kg of narcotics, including heroin and ganja, and the arrest of 91 individuals involved in drug-related crimes.

Details of Operation Dawn

Launched as a focused initiative against drug trafficking, Operation Dawn involved extensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, and coordinated raids across Naharlagun and nearby areas.

The seized narcotics, valued in the crores, included 500 grams of high-grade heroin and over 7 kg of ganja. Authorities also confiscated paraphernalia and financial records, exposing the network’s operational reach across state borders.

Among the 91 arrests were both small-time peddlers and key players in the distribution network. Police officials have revealed that several suspects had ties to interstate drug cartels, and further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the larger supply chain.

Community and Law Enforcement Response

Speaking about the operation, Naharlagun SP Ravi Kumar stated, “The success of Operation Dawn reflects the unwavering commitment of our team to combat the drug menace. We will continue to target the root causes and bring perpetrators to justice.”

Community leaders and residents have expressed gratitude for the police’s efforts, noting a visible decline in drug-related activities in the region. Awareness campaigns about the dangers of drug abuse are also being organized to complement enforcement efforts.

Challenges and Future Steps

Despite the success, police officials acknowledge the challenges posed by the dense terrain and sophisticated methods employed by traffickers. Moving forward, the Naharlagun Police plan to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and enhance technological capabilities for tracking and intercepting drug networks.
