On January 3, 2025, Assam Police successfully apprehended a suspected linkman of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), a separatist group active in the region. The arrest was made in Duliajan, a town in the eastern part of Assam, after the police recovered significant materials that suggested the individual’s involvement in illegal and subversive activities.

Authorities recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) and a pistol from the arrested suspect. These items are of particular concern, as they indicate a potential for future attacks or violence, possibly linked to ULFA-I’s ongoing insurgency activities. The IED, a dangerous explosive device typically used in terrorist and guerrilla attacks, suggests that the individual may have been involved in plotting attacks against security forces or civilian targets. The possession of a firearm further raised suspicions about the individual’s intentions and affiliations with militant groups operating in Assam.

The police’s prompt action in neutralizing the threat was a significant success in their ongoing efforts to counter insurgent activities in the region. As a crucial step in ensuring peace and security, the authorities are currently working to investigate the suspect’s background, the intended use of the explosive device, and the connections to other members of the militant group. The arrested individual is believed to have been a key facilitator for ULFA-I, playing a role in coordinating activities between the group and local operatives.
