On January 1, 2025, Meghalaya Police made a significant drug bust when they arrested three individuals from Assam at 15th Mile, GS Road, Byrnihat. The trio was found in possession of approximately 254.16 grams of suspected heroin, valued at several lakhs. The suspects, who are believed to be connected with drug distribution networks operating across the region, were taken into custody for further investigation.
The arrest came after an intensive surveillance operation by Meghalaya Police, aimed at cracking down on the growing issue of drug trafficking in the state. The heroin was hidden on the suspects’ person, and the police acted swiftly to seize the narcotics, preventing them from reaching the market.
The police believe the heroin was part of a larger shipment, which could have been distributed throughout the state and neighboring regions. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the drug network’s activities, and authorities are working closely with their counterparts in Assam to unravel the connections and prevent future trafficking.
The Meghalaya Police have reiterated their commitment to combatting drug abuse and trafficking, emphasizing their role in protecting the state’s youth from the dangers posed by such illegal substances. The arrested individuals will face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
