In a focused crackdown on drunk driving, Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda police arrested a total of 2,883 individuals during special checks on New Year’s night. This move was part of the larger effort to ensure public safety and reduce accidents during the celebratory period.

The majority of those arrested were between 21 and 30 years old, with two-wheeler riders accounting for a large portion of the arrests. The police used a combination of routine patrols and breathalyzer tests to identify impaired drivers and take swift action.

As part of the penalty, the driving licenses of those arrested were confiscated and forwarded to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) for further action, including revocation of licenses. The police department emphasized that the crackdown was not only to penalize offenders but also to deter future violations and promote responsible driving behavior.

The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner praised the efforts of the officers involved in the operation and urged the public to stay responsible during festivities. The department is also planning additional initiatives in the coming months to ensure road safety and reduce traffic-related fatalities.
