In a heart-wrenching incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, two children tragically drowned while attempting to catch a duck in a local water body, police confirmed. The incident took place on Monday afternoon in a village near the district’s outskirts.
According to initial reports, the children, aged 8 and 10, were playing near the water when they noticed a duck and decided to chase it. Eyewitnesses stated that the children ventured too far into the water and were unable to swim back to safety. Despite local residents’ efforts to rescue them, it was too late by the time they were retrieved.
Local police arrived at the scene to investigate and confirmed the details of the tragic event. “It’s a devastating loss for the families and the community. We urge parents to educate children about the dangers of water bodies and ensure they are supervised,” said a senior police officer.
The incident has left the village in mourning, with residents gathering to support the grieving families. Authorities have reiterated the importance of safety precautions near open water, especially during the current winter season when water levels can be deceptive.
As a precautionary measure, local authorities are considering placing warning signs near popular water bodies and running awareness campaigns to prevent such tragedies in the future.
