In a move aimed at strengthening law enforcement in Himachal Pradesh, the state government has announced plans to recruit 1,200 police personnel to form a specialized commando force. This elite unit will be tasked with addressing two key issues: curbing drug-related activities and enhancing the safety of tourists visiting the state.

Drug abuse has been a growing concern in Himachal Pradesh, with several areas witnessing an increase in illegal drug trade and addiction. The new commando force will be dedicated to tackling this issue head-on by deploying officers specifically trained to handle the complexities of drug-related crimes. These highly trained personnel will be equipped with specialized skills to combat narcotics trafficking, raiding drug dens, and providing swift responses to drug-related emergencies.

In addition to combatting drug issues, the special commando unit will also serve a critical role in tourism security. Himachal Pradesh is a major tourist destination, attracting thousands of visitors every year. To ensure the safety of tourists and prevent crimes such as thefts and harassment, the unit will be deployed at tourist hotspots, including popular hill stations, religious sites, and trekking routes.

The establishment of this force is expected to significantly improve the safety infrastructure in the state, making it a safer place for both residents and tourists. The commando force will also work in collaboration with local police and tourism authorities to ensure a smooth and secure experience for visitors.

This initiative is a part of the state’s broader strategy to modernize its law enforcement agencies and adapt to the changing needs of a growing population and expanding tourism industry. The government is optimistic that this force will bolster both public safety and tourism, contributing to the overall development of Himachal Pradesh.
