Mumbai celebrated New Year’s Eve with grand festivities, but the city’s police force ensured strict law enforcement, collecting a staggering ₹89 lakh in fines. The fines were imposed primarily for violations like drunk driving, rash driving, and not wearing helmets, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to maintaining public safety.
Mumbai Police deployed over 14,000 personnel across the city, focusing on areas with heavy footfall like Marine Drive, Gateway of India, and Bandra. Traffic checkpoints were set up at strategic locations to monitor vehicular movement. Police officers issued fines to offenders violating traffic rules and other regulations. This massive operation highlighted the city’s efforts to ensure an accident-free and secure celebration for all.
While the fines collected were significant, the move was applauded for emphasizing safety over leniency. Authorities reported that such measures effectively curbed reckless behavior, making Mumbai’s streets safer during the celebrations.
