As Bengaluru gears up to welcome the New Year, the city’s police have issued a public appeal urging citizens to refrain from wearing full face masks and using whistles in crowded public areas. This move comes as part of heightened security measures to ensure safety and avoid any potential disturbances during the celebrations.
The city is expected to witness large gatherings on New Year’s Eve, with parties, events, and celebrations taking place across prominent locations like MG Road, Brigade Road, and various other hotspots. To prevent any untoward incidents, Bengaluru Police have taken proactive steps by addressing common safety concerns.
The Reason Behind the Appeal: The police have raised concerns that wearing full face masks and using whistles could make it difficult to identify individuals in case of any disturbances or illegal activities. Full face masks can obscure a person’s identity, making it challenging for law enforcement to identify potential troublemakers in a crowd. Meanwhile, the use of loud whistles can be disruptive and might trigger panic or confusion in crowded settings, potentially hindering crowd control efforts.
Bengaluru Police have emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public, as ensuring a safe and peaceful celebration requires collective effort. They have further clarified that people can still enjoy the festivities, but they must avoid any behavior that could create discomfort or pose a safety risk.
Increased Patrolling and Surveillance: With heightened security, Bengaluru Police have also announced increased patrolling and surveillance measures throughout the city. Officers will be stationed at key locations, and additional measures like CCTV cameras and drones will be in place to monitor crowds and maintain law and order.
