In a major step towards preparing for the 2036 Olympic Games, India has begun laying the groundwork to identify and train future champions. According to reports, 10 world-class training centres have already been built as part of the country’s long-term Olympic vision.
This initiative marks a significant move in India’s mission to boost its global sports presence. These centres are just the beginning — the plan includes building a total of 150 training facilities across the nation. These will be used to monitor, mentor, and groom young athletes to world-class standards.
A key source for identifying Olympic potential will be the Khelo India Youth Games, the national platform where emerging sports talents are discovered. The government aims to recruit top-performing athletes from these games and provide them with the best coaching, nutrition, sports science support, and international exposure.
The infrastructure development is expected to cover a range of Olympic disciplines, including athletics, wrestling, boxing, shooting, swimming, and gymnastics — all areas where India has shown growing strength.
With a renewed focus on grassroots development, expert training, and state-of-the-art facilities, India is gearing up not just to participate in the Olympics 2036, but to make a mark on the global medal tally.
