Hyderabad, March 18, 2025 – Tensions ran high at Osmania University after police detained several students who were protesting on campus. The students had gathered in large numbers to voice their opposition to certain administrative policies, but the demonstration soon took a tense turn when security forces intervened.
According to reports, the protest was organized by student unions demanding changes in university policies related to fee structures, hostel facilities, and academic regulations. The situation intensified when university authorities called the police to disperse the protestors, citing disruptions to academic activities.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the police resorted to forceful measures to break up the demonstration, leading to clashes between students and law enforcement officials. Some students were reportedly injured during the scuffle, and at least a dozen were taken into custody.
A senior police official stated that the detentions were necessary to maintain order on campus. “The students were given multiple warnings to disperse peacefully, but they refused to comply. In order to prevent further escalation, we had to take action,” the official explained.
However, student leaders have condemned the police action, calling it an attack on their right to protest. “We were peacefully protesting for our rights, but the police used force against us without any provocation,” said one of the detained students.
