Shillong, March 18: Tragedy struck again as a second student from Meghalaya succumbed to suspected food poisoning at a residential school in Malavalli, Karnataka. The student, a native of Nongstoiñ, West Khasi Hills, passed away in the early hours of March 18, 2025, just days after the first victim was reported.

According to reports, a group of students at the institution had fallen ill after consuming a meal in the school’s mess on March 15. The affected students began experiencing severe symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, and acute stomach pain. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, two students, both from Meghalaya, could not survive the illness.

Authorities in Karnataka have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. Health officials have collected food samples from the school mess for laboratory testing, and preliminary findings suggest possible food contamination. However, officials are awaiting conclusive reports to confirm whether it was due to bacterial infection, poor hygiene, or other factors.
