Security forces in South Kashmir’s Qaimoh area, along the Shopian-Anantnag road, detected a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Sunday, prompting immediate precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident.
According to official sources, a routine patrol team noticed a suspicious object by the roadside, following which the bomb disposal squad was called in to inspect and neutralize the potential threat. Traffic on the route was halted temporarily to ensure the safety of commuters and security personnel.
A senior police official confirmed that an operation was underway to examine the nature of the suspected IED and rule out any further risks. “The area has been cordoned off, and a thorough search operation is being conducted to ensure there are no additional threats in the vicinity,” the official stated.
The discovery of the suspected IED has heightened security concerns, especially given the recent surge in militant activities in certain parts of the region. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or unattended objects to the nearest security personnel.
This incident comes amid intensified security measures across Jammu and Kashmir, with intelligence agencies warning of potential threats ahead of upcoming elections and key religious gatherings in the Union Territory.
