Ranya was arrested on March 3 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru for allegedly attempting to smuggle 14.2 kilograms of gold worth ₹12.56 crore from Dubai. Investigations suggest a possible nexus with a broader smuggling syndicate, implicating additional officials and foreign nationals.
