ISI-Backed Babbar Khalsa Terrorist Arrested: Planned Attack on Mahakumbh Foiled
In a significant breakthrough, security forces have arrested a terrorist associated with the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), who allegedly had links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP), Prashant Kumar, confirmed on Thursday that the terrorist had been planning a major attack during the upcoming Mahakumbh festival, a large-scale religious gathering expected to draw millions of devotees.
The accused, identified as Lajar Masih, was apprehended in a meticulously coordinated joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Punjab Police. Acting on intelligence inputs, security agencies tracked Masih’s movements and successfully captured him before he could execute his plans.
Authorities suspect that Masih was operating under the directives of ISI handlers, who were attempting to destabilize the region through acts of terrorism. The Mahakumbh, held in Prayagraj, is a high-profile event that attracts a massive congregation, making it a potential target for extremist elements.
DGP Prashant Kumar emphasized that the arrest is a crucial step in thwarting possible terror activities and preventing any disruptions to public safety. Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the network involved and identify any additional threats. Security measures have also been intensified to ensure the safety of devotees attending the Mahakumbh.
This arrest highlights the ongoing challenges posed by cross-border terrorism and the unwavering vigilance of Indian security forces in safeguarding national security.
