The Tripura government has launched a formal investigation into serious allegations of bribery at Tripura Medical College (TMC). Reports suggest that certain faculty members and administrative officials at the institution were involved in a ‘pass-for-cash’ scandal, where students allegedly paid bribes in exchange for clearing their MBBS examinations.

The Crime Branch has taken charge of the investigation, following multiple complaints and media reports regarding irregularities in the examination process at TMC. One of the key figures under scrutiny is Professor Soma Choudhury, the Head of the Physiology Department, who has already been questioned by the authorities. It is suspected that bribes were collected from students struggling to pass their exams, potentially compromising the institution’s credibility and the future of medical education in the state.
