The Kerala Police have launched a strict crackdown on social media influencers who are found promoting illegal gambling applications across various digital platforms. Recognizing the increasing influence of content creators on the public, especially the youth, authorities are taking proactive steps to curb the spread of unauthorized gambling promotions.
Collaboration with Meta to Remove Accounts
As part of the operation, Kerala Police have collaborated with Meta (the parent company of Facebook and Instagram) to identify and remove accounts that are actively endorsing gambling apps. These influencers were allegedly using their reach to advertise illegal betting platforms, misleading followers into believing that these apps were legitimate and safe.
Authorities believe that such promotions encourage financial fraud, addiction, and social instability, particularly among young people. By engaging with Meta, police have ensured that these fraudulent advertisements do not continue spreading unchecked across social media.
