CBI court convicts 2 ex-Punjab police officers in 33-year-old fake encounter case

The special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday convicted two former Punjab Police officers in a 33-year-old fake encounter case. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on March 6. The court also acquitted five persons while four accused died during the trial.

CBI’s Public Prosecutor Anmol Narang said that accused Sita Ram, 80, was convicted of committing offence under sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) and 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property) of the IPC, and Rajpal, 57, was convicted of offence committed under sections 201 (destruction of evidence) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC by the court of Special CBI Judge Rakesh Gupta.
