People in Haryana lost Rs 72.84 crore to cyber frauds in January this year, the police said, adding that the amount was Rs 14 crore less compared to January 2024, when cybercriminals defrauded people of Rs 86.18 crore.
police attributed the success to their awareness campaigns and said they had put 433 more cybercriminals behind bars in January this year, compared to January 2024.
“As a result of the prompt action of the Haryana Police, a significant increase has also been recorded in the amount saved from cybercriminals in January 2025 compared to January 2024. Taking strict action against cybercriminals, the Haryana Police has arrested four times more criminals in January 2025. While 138 cyber accused were arrested in January 2024, this year, a total of 571 accused (130 from Haryana, 441 from other states) have been arrested,” DGP Shatrujeet Kapur said in a statement.
