In a distressing case of cyber fraud, an elderly cancer patient from Uttar Pradesh was deceived into transferring Rs 41 lakh to cybercriminals. The scammers, posing as bank officials and government representatives, manipulated the victim into making multiple transactions under the pretext of financial assistance for medical treatment.
By the time the victim realized the fraud, the criminals had disappeared, making recovery difficult. The UP Police’s cybercrime wing has initiated an investigation and is tracing digital footprints to apprehend the culprits. Authorities are urging citizens, especially the elderly, to remain cautious against online scams and fraudulent calls.
