Domestic violence remains a significant concern in Himachal Pradesh, with various studies highlighting its prevalence and impact on women’s health. A study conducted in Shimla district found that domestic violence can manifest as physical assault, psychological abuse, social abuse, financial abuse, or sexual assault, all of which adversely affect women’s health.
National data indicates that Himachal Pradesh has a lower incidence of domestic violence compared to some other states. For instance, a study on domestic violence in India reported that 19% of women in Himachal Pradesh experienced domestic violence, which is lower than the national average.
However, even at this rate, the impact on women’s health and well-being is considerable, underscoring the need for continued efforts to address and mitigate domestic violence in the state.
