As part of pre-Republic Day and Meghalaya Day celebrations, the Ri-Bhoi police have initiated a community-centric helmet distribution drive. The campaign, launched in January 2025, aims to promote the use of helmets, especially among children, women, and elderly riders, who are often overlooked in road safety efforts. This proactive step by the police highlights their commitment to creating a safer driving environment for all.
In addition to helmet distribution, the police have set up 24/7 checkpoints across the district to enforce traffic laws strictly. These checkpoints focus on ensuring compliance with helmet and seat belt regulations, sending a strong message about the importance of adhering to road safety norms. The initiative has received widespread appreciation from the public, marking a significant milestone in Meghalaya’s ongoing efforts to reduce road accidents.
