In response, the Tamil Nadu Police have launched a massive operation to curb this illegal activity. Special teams have been deployed in key locations where sand mining is rampant, particularly in the Kaveri River basin, to catch the culprits and prevent illegal extraction of sand.
The operation includes surprise inspections, check-posts along major highways, and surveillance with the help of drones. Authorities are also cracking down on the transportation of illegally mined sand. With rising construction demand in the state, this operation aims to preserve natural resources while maintaining law and order. The police are also working with the Revenue Department to monitor sand stockpiles and ensure that all mining activities are legitimate.
