In a joint operation between Assam and Nagaland police, two Naga youths were apprehended with a large quantity of illegal drugs in Merapani, a town located on the Assam-Nagaland border. The youths were reportedly smuggling the drugs into Assam when they were caught by the Assam police. Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to Nagaland Police, as the operation’s primary objective was to combat cross-border drug trafficking that often spans the two states.

The seizure has raised concerns about the growing drug trade between Assam and Nagaland, with both states acknowledging the need for a more robust anti-drug initiative. Nagaland police have since launched an investigation to uncover any potential networks involved in this illicit activity and vowed to strengthen border surveillance to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
