During the Diwali festival  Gujarat police enhanced surveillance efforts to prevent crime, particularly house break-ins. Known criminals were placed under surveillance, and a dedicated operation, the Mentor Project, focused on 611 individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities. This proactive approach was aimed at maintaining public safety during a time when property thefts and robberies are typically higher due to increased festivities.

The heightened surveillance reflects a broader trend towards utilizing technology and intelligence-led policing. With police increasing their vigilance during high-risk periods such as festivals, Gujarat has managed to maintain a sense of security for its residents. The initiative, which included monitoring suspects and securing vulnerable areas, was lauded by residents and officials alike.
