In 2025, the Chennai police successfully ensured a peaceful Kaanum Pongal celebration by deploying 15,500 personnel, including 1,500 Home Guards. This initiative was aimed at providing robust security for the masses who gather at Marina Beach and other key locations. To manage the large crowds, the police set up temporary control rooms at strategic locations and equipped them with advanced CCTV surveillance and drone cameras.
In addition to physical security, the police took preventive measures by conducting checks and ensuring no untoward incidents occurred. The integration of technology with human resources demonstrated the effectiveness of a modernized approach to maintaining law and order during one of Tamil Nadu’s most celebrated festivals.
