In a proactive move to ensure public safety during Makar Sankranti, Mumbai Police conducted an intensive drive from January 10 to January 13, 2025, against the use and sale of illegal nylon manja (kite string). This synthetic string, known for its sharpness and durability, poses severe risks to both humans and animals. The police registered 19 cases during the operation and seized materials worth ₹35,350.
Authorities have emphasized the dangers of nylon manja, which has caused numerous accidents in the past, including injuries to birds, pedestrians, and motorcyclists. The crackdown highlights the police’s commitment to preventing such incidents and ensuring a safe festival environment. Citizens have been urged to report the sale or use of banned kite strings to their local police stations.
