The Himachal Pradesh government has announced the establishment of a Special Task Force (STF) to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse and organized crime within the state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that the STF will operate under the leadership of an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) or Inspector General of Police (IGP). To bolster its capabilities, the task force will include a dedicated commando unit, with members undergoing specialized anti-narcotics training in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
The primary objectives of the STF include dismantling drug trafficking networks, apprehending key players in the narcotics trade, and improving intelligence-gathering mechanisms. Recognizing the urgency of the drug problem, the state government also plans to set up special courts for expedited handling of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases, ensuring swift and decisive justice. This initiative reflects a robust commitment to safeguarding the youth and maintaining law and order across Himachal Pradesh.
