In an effort to ensure a smooth and safe Kaanum Pongal celebration, Greater Chennai City Police have announced the deployment of a large security force consisting of 16,000 personnel. This includes more than 1,500 Home Guards who will assist in managing the massive crowds that are expected to gather at popular locations such as Marina Beach, Besant Nagar, and other hotspots around the city. The police will also set up temporary mini-control rooms and police assistance centers at these venues to provide immediate support.
This deployment represents a major commitment to public safety, with officers actively patrolling, managing traffic, and ensuring that all necessary protocols are followed. In addition to general security, emergency response units are on standby to address any untoward incidents swiftly.
