In response to increasing extortion activities by underground groups, Manipur Police have established a dedicated anti-extortion cell. Led by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), the cell includes zonal Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) as members to ensure comprehensive action against organized crime. Over the past year, the cell has arrested 121 individuals, including members of underground groups and local gangs, based on public complaints.
The police have encouraged citizens to come forward with reports of extortion, assuring confidentiality and swift action. This initiative highlights the law enforcement’s commitment to curbing extortion and restoring public confidence. The move is seen as a significant step toward maintaining peace and safety across the state.
