Major Fire in Gangtok Highrise Leads to NH 10 Closure

On January 13, 2025, a significant fire erupted in a high-rise building along National Highway 10 in Gangtok, Sikkim. The blaze led to the explosion of five gas cylinders, causing panic among residents. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The Sikkim Police, along with fire department personnel, responded promptly, deploying eight fire tenders to control the inferno over four hours. The incident resulted in the temporary closure of NH 10 to ensure public safety. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible short circuit as the cause, but further inquiries are ongoing to determine the exact reason and the source of the gas cylinders involved
