The Karnataka Police has a rich legacy, with its roots going back to the period of the erstwhile Mysore kingdom. The formation of the Karnataka Police as a modern law enforcement agency took place after Karnataka became a state in 1956. The force faced many challenges during the early years, including dealing with internal political unrest, communal violence, and the rapid urbanization of major cities like Bengaluru.

As the state’s largest city grew into a major IT hub, Karnataka Police adapted to modern challenges, adopting advanced technology in crime detection, surveillance, and digital forensics. The force also established specialized units such as the Anti-Naxal Force, Cyber Crime Police, and the Special Task Force to deal with organized crime and modern-day security threats.
