The Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Police force was established after the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu was formed in 1961. Before this, the police systems in these regions were managed under Portuguese colonial rule. After the territory’s liberation from Portuguese control, the law enforcement system had to be restructured to cater to the needs of the new Indian administration. The police force was tasked with handling the region’s diverse population, security needs, and managing the unique challenges of a coastal region.

Over the years, the force has modernized by adopting technology in policing, and it has also placed significant emphasis on public safety, traffic management, and criminal investigations. With the merger of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in 2020, the police force adapted to address the combined region’s law enforcement challenges, ensuring both security and maintaining peace in this coastal and industrial region.
