In 2024, Punjab Police made a remarkable breakthrough in tackling drug trafficking, arresting almost 9,000 smugglers throughout the state. The seizures included 1,099 kg of heroin, 991 kg of opium, and over 400 quintals of poppy husk. These numbers reflect the continuous efforts by the state police to curb the drug trade, which has been a persistent issue in Punjab for years.

The police are also working on preventing the smuggling of firearms and narcotics from neighboring countries. As part of their strategy, Punjab police are increasing surveillance, initiating stricter border controls, and working in coordination with central agencies to disrupt the supply chain.
