On January 6, 2025, Manipur Police arrested two individuals, P. Thangkhanlam (45) and Mangliankhup (32), in Churachandpur district for their involvement in illegal drug possession. During a routine inspection, authorities intercepted their vehicle and seized approximately 776 grams of suspected brown sugar, a potent and illicit form of heroin, along with 537 tablets of suspected WY tablets, a banned psychoactive drug.
The arrest is part of an ongoing effort by local authorities to combat the rising issue of drug trafficking in Manipur. Drugs like brown sugar and WY tablets have been identified as significant contributors to the drug abuse problem in the state, particularly among the youth. These substances not only have harmful health effects but also fuel criminal networks that operate across the region.
The police are continuing their investigation into the source and distribution networks of the seized drugs. The authorities have vowed to enhance efforts to clamp down on the growing drug trade and its detrimental impact on the local community. The arrest of Thangkhanlam and Mangliankhup underscores the commitment of Manipur Police to address the drug menace and restore public safety in the region.
