The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court will observe its winter vacations from January 6 to January 31, 2025, with a “No Work Period” from January 6 to January 11. During this time, the court will remain closed, and no hearings will be conducted, giving the court staff and judges a break due to the region’s harsh winter conditions. This annual practice is intended to ensure that legal proceedings do not suffer from weather-related disruptions, as the region often experiences extreme cold and difficult travel conditions during the winter months.

The winter break is a common feature in many high courts across the country, allowing the court to function smoothly without being hampered by external factors like heavy snowfall or freezing temperatures. However, during the “No Work Period,” emergency cases or matters requiring immediate attention will be addressed, if necessary, by a limited bench of judges.

This winter vacation period will provide a brief respite to lawyers, litigants, and court employees while allowing the judiciary to prepare for the resumption of regular hearings from January 12 onwards. The court will resume its operations with renewed focus on the legal matters pending for resolution, as cases continue to accumulate throughout the break.
