In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Assam Police have arrested two terror suspects and recovered a large cache of arms, preventing what is believed to have been a major terrorist act. The operation, carried out on January 6, 2025, is being hailed as a major success in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the state.

Details of the Arrest and Seizure

The Assam Police acted on intelligence inputs indicating the presence of armed terror suspects in a safe house located in a remote part of the state. Upon executing a search warrant, officers apprehended two individuals who were found in possession of a substantial number of firearms, explosives, and ammunition.

The recovered arms included rifles, pistols, and high-powered explosives, all of which could have been used in a planned attack. Authorities believe the suspects were preparing to target key infrastructure in the region.

“The swift action of our team has helped prevent a significant terrorist incident. The weapons seized indicate a well-coordinated plan to carry out an attack,” said Inspector General of Assam Police, Sandeep Mishra.

Interrogation and Ongoing Investigation

The two arrested suspects, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, are currently under intense interrogation. Assam Police are working with national security agencies to uncover further details regarding the individuals’ motives, affiliations, and their potential involvement in larger terror networks.

Authorities are also focusing on tracking down other potential accomplices in the region. The arrest and seizure have raised concerns about the growing presence of terror cells in the state, with authorities tightening security measures.

Importance of the Operation

This arrest comes at a time when Assam Police are increasing their focus on counter-terrorism efforts, particularly in areas along the international border. The state’s strategic location has made it a target for terror groups aiming to destabilize peace and security.

“The police are constantly monitoring areas vulnerable to terrorist infiltration and smuggling. We are committed to ensuring the safety of the people of Assam,” added Sandeep Mishra.
