In a significant operation on January 4, 2025, security forces successfully engaged in a fierce gunfight with Naxalites in the dense Abujhmaad forest, located at the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts in Chhattisgarh. The encounter, which is being hailed as a major victory in the ongoing fight against insurgency, resulted in the elimination of four Naxalites. Tragically, one brave District Reserve Guard (DRG) head constable, Sannu Karam, also lost his life during the operation.
The operation unfolded following specific intelligence inputs about Naxalite movements in the region. Security forces, comprising members of the DRG and local police units, launched a carefully planned operation in the early hours of the day. As they advanced through the dense forest terrain, they encountered a heavily armed group of Naxalites, leading to an intense exchange of fire.
Authorities reported that the Naxalites were well-prepared and strategically positioned to ambush the approaching forces. However, the tactical expertise and coordinated response of the security personnel ensured the mission’s success. Among the casualties on the Naxalite side were key operatives involved in orchestrating attacks in the region. The recovery of advanced automatic weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and a self-loading rifle (SLR), highlights the extent of the insurgents’ firepower.
Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, expressed deep condolences for the loss of Constable Sannu Karam, describing him as a dedicated officer who laid down his life in the line of duty. “This operation underscores our commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of civilians in the region,” he stated. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased Naxalites and gather intelligence from the recovered weapons and other materials found at the site.
