In a landmark decision aimed at promoting responsible driving and ensuring the safety of emergency vehicles, Kerala Police fined a car driver ₹2.5 lakh for obstructing an ambulance on its way to Thrissur Medical College. The incident occurred during a critical emergency where the ambulance was transporting a patient from Ponnani to the hospital.
According to reports, the driver of the car willfully blocked the ambulance for several kilometers despite repeated honking and attempts to overtake. This delay posed a significant risk to the life of the patient being transported. The Kerala Police, upon reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, took swift action and imposed one of the highest fines for such an offense in the state.
The fine serves as a stern warning to motorists about the importance of giving way to emergency vehicles. Blocking an ambulance not only violates traffic rules but also endangers lives, making such actions unacceptable. “The hefty penalty reflects our zero-tolerance policy towards obstructing emergency services,” said a senior police official.
